Vespera stood at the edge of the Evolution Pool at the
Goopper Grotto, watching a young adventurer place their Goopper gently into the water. The Mirage Rune glowed in their hand—still warm from its discovery during the
Traveling Merchant’s recent visit.
“Be still,” she whispered, as the pool’s surface rippled.
The light surged. The Goopper squeaked. And then it was over. In its place: a new form of Goopper, slightly sleeker, sharper-eyed… but floating beside it was something else.
A jelly-like orb, softly pulsing with color. Mysterious. Vibrating faintly. The adventurer reached to touch it—but Vespera held out a hand. “Don’t be so quick. It’s… resonating. This is no ordinary runoff.”
She lowered her hand and carefully scooped it up into a crystal flask. The goo shimmered inside, as if it watched. “This…” she murmured, eyes narrowing, “is Gooppie Goo.”
Since that moment, adventurers across Santae have reported similar findings. When a Goopper evolves using one of the known runes such as the Depths Rune, the Sanctuary Rune, or the newly uncovered Mirage Rune, Gooppie Goo will form from the process.
These Goos come in different colors, and consistencies, eleven varieties in total, it seems. Each one responds differently to its surroundings.

Vespera has begun cataloging them. “Some are drawn to light. Others to sound. A few hum ancient melodies when the wind shifts. They are more than leftovers. They are… keys.”
So far, only a handful of Gooppie Goos have been confirmed. But Vespera is adamant that there are eleven, and that each one must be gathered before the Grotto can truly be unlocked.
“I can feel the barrier. It trembles when a new Goo arrives, like it remembers. The Grotto is sentient. It’s waiting for us to bring it back together.” This next phase is about discovery. collection and understanding of something ancient.
